From Sydney: 220 kilometres, 2.5 hours drive north from Sydney via the F3 Freeway.

From Newcastle: 50 kilometres, 45 minutes drive north from Newcastle.

Port Stephens is a large area but to get to the main tourist area around the Anna Bay and Nelson Bay area follow the directions below:

  • To get started head for the F1 Freeway on the north side of Sydney.  Follow signs that say Newcastle.
  • Once on the Freeway start your odometer, now follow on  to the end of the Freeway. Approx 124km from start of Freeway.
  • At the roundabout follow signs to Newcastle ( right at the roundabout)
  • Continue on until you see a sign saying Raymond Terrace, Taree etc (129km)
  • Veer to your left to go over the Hexham Bridge
  • Continue along the Pacific Highway for 11km until you turn right onto Richardson Rd
  • Follow signs to Nelson Bay. At Salt Ash Richardson Rd joins with Nelson Bay Rd at the roundabout.
  • Continue along Nelson Bay Rd  ( you will see we love roundabouts up this way.) 
  • Along the way you will pass by Anna Bay or you can continue straight through, still heading for Nelson Bay.

From North:

  • If you are heading down the Pacific highway via Buladelah and Karuah continue on heading for Raymond Terrace. 
  • You will come to a turn off before you reach Raymond Terrace to your left saying Medowie, Williamtown.  Turn left here continue on through Medowie
  • At the 2nd roundabout turn left you are now on Richardson Rd. 
  • Follow signs to Nelson Bay, at the round about at Salt Ash ( Mobil petrol station on corner) turn left onto Nelson Bay Rd. 
  • Continue along Nelson Bay rd along the way you will pass by Anna Bay or you can continue onto Nelson Bay just continue along Nelson Bay Rd.

Public Transport:

TRAIN

Trains are available to Newcastle Station. Port Stephens Buses connect with the trains for transfers to Port Stephens from Stand 3 at the station. Just tell the bus driver where you are going. City Rail Timetable

COACH

Port Stephens coaches depart from Eddy Ave, Bay 14 at  Central Station Sydney daily at 2.00pm for Port Stephens. 

Greyhound buses  www.greyhound.com.au  also come to Newcastle and then you can connect with Port Stephens buses. Make sure you book to Newcastle not Raymond Terrace or Karuah as links from these areas are difficult.

Flights are available daily to Newcastle Airport, Williamtown (25 minutes drive to Port Stephens which is serviced hourly by Port Stephens buses) Flights are from Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast
